An Anti-hit, Hit: Review of Top 10 (2022)

Leroy from the North is back with another southern infused rock tune that will sure have people tappin’ their foot and wanting to boogie. The Americana/Southern rock artist first came out with an EP in 2019 called “Health and Fitness”, debuting a refreshing breath of air back into Southern rock. Well, he is now back with the single “Top 10”, a twangy commentary about the repetitive nature of top 100 music and the constant circulation songs can get. Noting “It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s much worse cause I find it OK”, Leroy shines a light on how most top 100/mainstream music is average for the most part, especially in a modern world of over-produced hip-hop and electronic pop. Hell, even country music has become too produced. But thankfully, artists like Leroy from the North are bringing back rock and country music back to its roots by focusing on the instruments and lyrics that are easily interpreted but also come with meaning. “Top 10” has all that a hit should have with solid guitar playing, strong vocals, and a catchy flow. And the guitar playing is solid here. Near the end of the song, Leroy from the North gives us a fun guitar solo that isn’t all over the place. As “Top 10” played out of the stereo, I felt like summer was here with feelings of freedom and drinking with friends at the beach. It’s the perfect song to add to your summer ‘22 playlist with its bright guitar playing, Leroy’s slight twang, and an all-around good time. I look forward to seeing what’s in store next with Leroy from the North.
